5 Easy Ways to Put Some Fun Back into Your Fitness Routine

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

Let's face it, we all know that working out is good for us, and not everyone enjoys working out. I hear it all the time. So, how can we find some ways to stay motivated so that we can get the exercise we need...? For me, the answer is FUN!

If we can find a way to bring fun back into our fitness routines and movement practices, then we are going to be so much more likely to stick with those routines and be able to reach our goals!

So, if you're like me and you want to find a way to bring fun back into fitness, keep reading because I'm about to give you five easy tips to make your workout plans more fun.

5 Easy Ways to Get Some Fun Back into Your Fitness Routine:

  1. Workout with a friend or friends (socially distanced, of course). Having someone to challenge you, support you, and encourage you makes a huge difference. Go for a hike or walk around the neighborhood. Talking will distract you from the exercise, and you'll get to know each other that much better in the process.

  2. Use colorful equipment. I obviously have a thing for red, pink, and purple. Dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, and balls all come in different colors. You can also wrap the handles with colorful tapes or get crafty and paint them. This will also help ensure that when working out around other people, no one will accidentally grab yours by mistake.

  3. Listen to music that makes you want to move. My go-to is salsa, although my playlist also includes 80s pop, country, reggaeton, and so much more. Depending on what your workout is, the music will also provide you with a great tempo to pace yourself so you can lose yourself in the music.

  4. Join a group class. I know, I know...you don't want anyone watching you. So, join a group online and turn off your video feed. Nobody will know you're working out in your pjs or that you don't know your left from your right. Or, if you really crave the accountability of seeing people face-to-face, you may be able to find an organized aerobics or martial arts class that's currently meeting outside in open space and practicing physical distancing.

  5. Go old school and get a jump rope, hula hoop, bicycle, or a pair of roller skates. Fitness doesn't have to be complicated. You'll move your body, feel like a kid again, and yes, burn some calories! Even if it takes a while to get the coordination going again, just remember, have fun with it!

Tip:

If you aren't feeling comfortable meeting with anyone in person right now, you can still provide accountability and support for one another through text messages or emails. Or you can even meet on Zoom for a workout session or chat on the phone while you each go for a walk in your own neighborhoods! Stay positive and remember, you don't have to do it alone!
